I used to really struggle with making Adsense something that would ever make me anything more than loose change. Sure it was making me a couple of dollars each day – but I needed to drastically increase those numbers it was ever going to be a serious percentage of my monthly income.
So the last could of months I have been working on optimizing my sites, using the as test dummies to trial different placement and content strategies to see what type of improvements I could make with Adsense.
I am making double figures daily and slowly pushing myself higher (hopefully in the medium term to three figures daily) and today I wanted to share a couple of simple tips that I learned in this period of growth and how you can easily duplicate my results.
1. Maximise Your Adsense Exposure
The one Adsense tip that I get thrown around a lot by ‘Adsense Guru’s’ is to have just one adsense block within your content – because more ads equals lower priced clicks. So their strategy is to go for a few big priced clicks over a lot of little clicks. I tried this strategy and while seeing one or two $1-2 clicks each day might be nice, it wasn’t making me rich.
So I started adding a couple more units into my templates and found that while I was getting a lower CPC, the actual amount I was making increase because I was getting a lot more clicks!
2. Use Link Unit Ads
Link Unit ads were something I NEVER used, because I personally never click on them myself. But what I needed to realise, is that as a technically proficient person, I am not your average website visitor. Most of my niche sites are non-technical – so most visitors do not know the difference between a navigation and a link unit.
By simply adding a link unit above my post title and at the bottom of each post (to just a couple of my sites), I instantly doubled my Adsense daily income and am shocked by the click through rates I am know getting.
3. Create Valuable Content
I have heard a couple of people saying that you should write content specifically for search engines so that when visitors arrive they are looking for an exit so quick that frantically click on the closest link to get out (hoping that it is one of their Adsense units). No offense but this is a terrible strategy and promotes the creation of valueless content that carries no real worth being on the internet.
One thing I have noticed (especially on one of my blogs), is that since I have added the link unit at the bottom of my posts, that people are so keep for more information after reading my content that this unit (well below the fold) is my most clicked (and profitable) unit within my Adsense account.
The only thing I can put this down too is well written, interesting content, that keeps readers interested until the end – but still leaves them wanting to know a little bit more.
