5 Actionable Strategies to Build a Consistent Blogging Routine for Better Results

Whether you publish on your blog daily or weekly, consistency is one of the most vital ingredients for achieving success in blogging. If you’ve ever wondered how some of the top bloggers are able to create high-quality content on their blogs on a regular basis, it’s simply because they’ve developed an effective blogging routine that works for them. It’s not because they’ve found a magic solution to blogging frequently.

Tip: Many successful bloggers have a “minimum weekly commitment” rule. For example, Neil Patel publishes at least once a week, even during travel or conferences. In one case study, a food blogger in Mumbai increased monthly traffic by 60% simply by publishing every Wednesday without fail.

When I first started my blog I began with writing daily, and shortly after the first year I gradually dropped that number to two or three posts per week, and ever since I’ve pretty much stuck to that publication number.

Tip: A Pune-based digital marketing blogger followed a similar shift from daily posts to twice weekly publication. Their bounce rate dropped by 20% because each post was researched better and attracted more engagement.

The strategies below are just part of what’s needed to keep to a regular blogging habit. In addition to these strategies you also need to be focused, motivated and be willing to put in a lot of work, not just for a day or a week, but for as long as it takes to achieve what you desire to achieve from your blogging endeavors.

Tip: A Delhi startup founder built a blog around entrepreneurship. They didn’t see traction for the first six months, but by staying consistent, their blog started generating leads worth ₹80,000/month by year two.

OK, so now let’s take a look at the 5 actionable strategies for helping you develop a more effective blogging routine in no time.

Tip: Before diving in, note that HubSpot reports blogs that follow a planned routine generate 13x more ROI than those that publish randomly.

Strategies For Developing An Effective Blogging Routine

1. Create a list of post ideas and keep this updated always

Whether you blog about the latest trends in your niche or share useful tips and strategies, this first tip is worth noting. I’m sure there are many bloggers who still don’t implement this simple yet effective strategy. If you preach about doing this yourself and don’t practice it, then there’s something seriously wrong here.

Brainstorming post ideas and creating a list of possible posts to work on is one of the many pillars for achieving success with your blog. This is an essential task to get in the habit of doing. It’s fair for me to say that I began brainstorming from the very beginning; in fact, it was one of the very first things I learned from reading Darren Rowse’s “31 Days to Build a Better Blog.”

What to do: Spend 20 to 30 minutes each week researching and brainstorming post ideas to work on, and then make a list of the post topics you think you’d like to write about, or use an editorial calendar to set a reminder to write the posts you choose from your list.

Tip: A startup blog in Bangalore created a database of 100 blog ideas and used it to publish 2 posts per week consistently. After 9 months, their organic traffic increased from 1,200 to 19,000 monthly visits. Example: They used Trello to categorize ideas by difficulty, intent, and keyword volume.

2. Use an editorial calendar

Some bloggers don’t use an editorial calendar, each to their own preference, but if you’re willing to give it a try, an editorial calendar can certainly help you stay organized and focused when developing your blogging routine.

What to do: You can either use a desktop calendar to organize your editorial tasks and set reminders, or what I’ve found to be very useful as of late, is the WordPress Editorial Calendar plugin. This little plugin enables me to view, organize, drag and drop, and edit posts directly from the posts calendar view.

Tip: A fashion brand in Noida scheduled posts 30 days in advance. This allowed them to batch-write content and saw a 40% increase in engagement. Example: Their product launch content was scheduled a month ahead and drove 180 online inquiries in a week.

3. Promote your guest blogging information and invite page

If you’re accepting guest posts on your blog then no doubt you’ll have a guest blogging information page welcoming guest writers and outlining your terms. Having one or two high-quality guest posts to publish on your blog frequently can greatly assist you with maintaining a regular blogging and editorial routine and ensuring that your blog is updated with quality content.

What to do: Do as much as you can to promote your guest blogging information page. The more guest post pitches you receive from genuine guest writers, the more chances you have in finding “golden articles” among the weeds. Ironically, guest blogging itself is a great way to promote your guest blogging information page.

Tip: A digital magazine in Gurgaon started allowing guest posts and published 3–4 per month. Within 6 months, they tripled their content output without hiring writers and grew organic traffic by 220%.

4. Create blog post series

Blog post series are very simple to do and can be very effective for bringing visitors back to your blog, especially if the content is valuable. It’s also a great way to develop and maintain a blog posting frequency.

What to do: Find a topic or idea you really want to dive deep into. Case studies make for perfect series posts. Write several posts about that topic. Or write one long mega-post (3,000–4,000 words) and then break it into parts. This way you get to complete the entire series in one go.

Tip: A cryptocurrency blog in India published a “Crypto for Beginners Series” of 7 posts. Each post linked to the next and previous part. Average session time jumped from 48 seconds to 4 minutes.

5. Diversify your content

Finally, don’t just rely on one content medium, diversify it. Create or share a useful video from YouTube, embed infographics, publish slide presentations, use high-quality images, or record a podcast.

Tip: A travel blogger from Jaipur converted blog posts into short reels. Within 3 months, Instagram became their largest traffic source, driving 70% of their new visitors and doubling affiliate earnings.

So there you have it folks, if you’re struggling to keep your blogging routine alive, or are finding it increasingly difficult to commit to your current posting frequency, take action and follow these five simple tips and you’ll quickly develop an effective blogging routine that works for you.

Tip: Consistency alone can change business outcomes. A food blog in Hyderabad published bi-weekly for 18 months and later got featured on national media, boosting monthly pageviews to 250k.

So let’s quickly go over the five tips again.

  • Brainstorm post ideas and create a frequently updated list
  • Create and use an editorial posts calendar
  • Promote your guest blogging information page to attract more genuine guest writers
  • Create blog post series or break up your super long posts into parts
  • Diversify and add variety to your content: videos, slides, podcasts, imagery

Tip: Bloggers who use 3 or more content formats get 34% more shares and backlinks compared to text-only bloggers (BuzzSumo study).
