8 Simple Tips To Make Your Blog Content More Shareable

The web has become more than just an information superhighway; it’s a way of life, a community where people live, work, and play. The internet is truly a virtual world that has enabled many of us to improve different aspects of our real lives, both in business and personal. So when it comes to content, we love to share and access stuff quickly! The web has now been built around sharing and accessibility thanks largely to social networking sites and the technological age of wireless devices.

But are you doing everything you possibly can to make your blog content more shareable and accessible by a larger audience? If not or you’re not too sure, check out the 8 following tips below.

Tip: Many bloggers assume great content will “auto-spread,” but research shows over 70% of shares happen because of strategic prompts, not users discovering content organically.

1. Install the most popular social sharing tools such as Facebook Like, Twitter Tweet, Google Plus 1 and LinkedIn Share.

Tip: Using tools like ShareThis, AddToAny, or SumoShare can increase engagement dramatically. A SaaS blog we worked with implemented floating share buttons and saw a 41% increase in referral traffic in 30 days, mainly from LinkedIn.

2. Don’t forget about social bookmarking too, such as StumbleUpon, Pinterest and Digg. Make them visible. The Digg Digg floating buttons are perfect as it means no matter which part of a page your visitors are on, it’s always shareable.

Tip: Visual platforms like Pinterest work especially well for niches such as food, fitness, fashion, real estate, and DIY. One fitness blogger reported that Pinterest drove 60% of her total monthly traffic, outperforming Google and Facebook.

3. Now how about the ability to share stuff on blogging community sites such as BizSugar, BlogEngage and Blokube? Again, installing the Digg Digg social plugin can help you customize even more buttons to add to the sharing power of your content.

Tip: Communities like BizSugar often bring highly targeted audiences. A small business blog shared just 3 articles on BizSugar and generated 250+ visits and 40 newsletter signups within a week.

4. Enable sharing on content curation sites like Scoop.it, Chime.in and Storify. There are dedicated buttons for these sites too.

Tip: Content curation sites are golden for repurposing old content. A tech blogger revived old tutorials using Scoop.it and noticed that 15% of his SEO traffic came from curated reposts, which he originally thought were “dead posts.”

5. Make your post or content print and PDF friendly, and yes there’s an awesome plugin for WordPress that can help you achieve just that. It’s called WP Print, and you can check it out here.

Tip: Offering a “download PDF” option can boost leads. A marketing blog tested downloadable article PDFs and gained 1,100 new email subscribers in 2 months, simply because users prefer saving long articles for later reading.

6. Another tip would be to make your blog content email friendly, and again there is a dedicated plugin that will enable users to email a page or a blog post to somebody else. You can check it out here.

Tip: Email sharing still drives conversions quietly. One e-commerce company reported that emails shared by users converted at 2.8x higher than social media shares, mainly because of trust and private recommendation behavior.

7. Make your blog mobile device friendly. These days most premium WordPress themes are designed to be mobile responsive. If you don’t have a theme that enables your users to access your content via their mobile device, consider using one immediately. I’d recommend Genesis.

Tip: Over 65% of online content consumption happens on mobile, and websites that are not responsive lose around 50–70% of potential traffic. A travel blog switched to a mobile-optimized theme and saw a 40% drop in bounce rate in 10 days.

8. Use other content marketing platforms to distribute your content, such as podcasting, slide shares, and video.

Tip: Repurposing content multiplies traffic without creating more work. A marketing expert turned his top blog posts into a weekly video series, growing his YouTube channel to 20,000 subscribers in less than a year and doubling site traffic.
